The ONI INITIATIVE is a project that funds the desires of young artist, to preserve culture and provide cultural awareness to the community. All youth should have access to cultural arts programming to enhance self awareness, artistic growth and confidence. The Oni initiative was built to enhance a since of pride within the communities that need it the most, to carry on legacy and honor that our history holds and pass it on to the future.
1. Seek young aspiring artists to commit to being apart of the initiative annually
2. Fundraise to acquire funding to travel to dance and business conferences/trainings
3. Travel to conferences
4. Record/document experiences, and choreography learned from conferences and trainings
5. Return to home base to reflect and create new choreography
6. Prepare for performances and showcases
7. Partner with local studios and non profits to acquire practice space, performance opportunities, and promote unity within the dance community
8. Provide the community with a youth collaborative that displays African/African American Culture
9. Sustain African/African American Culture in youth
10. Promote cultural awareness within youth to pass it on to younger youth
Basic instruction around rhythm, song, story telling and movement for ages 0-4 with the accompaniment of an adult
West African dance course for ages 5+ , shaped to introduce music, song and dance in preparation for a culminating performance
Curriculum developed around afterschool support to complete homework and assignments before learning choreography
